We are pleased to announce our participation in the inaugural edition of Frieze Los Angeles with a solo presentation by gallery artist Mark A. Rodriguez. The fair opens on February 14 by invitation, and we are located at stand A4. We will also open a solo exhibition by Rodriguez entitled “Account,” his third with the gallery, on Wednesday February 13, with a public reception to follow on Friday February 15 from 6 to 8pm.

Mark A. Rodriguez (b. 1982 USA) works from a personal lexicon built out of oblique aspects of a private Americana. His sculptures masquerade as ordinary objects, things, and cultural artifacts that disclose an uncanny poetics of everyday life. Rodriguez is interested in the culture of collecting, in particular the economies and values that take form within those communities, revealing frays and contradictions in the process.

The artist’s series of wall-mounted audiocassette rack sculptures, two of which we are presenting at Frieze Los Angeles, contain incomplete collections of bootleg recordings of the Grateful Dead dating from the band’s inception in 1965 to its conclusion in 1995. Each work, 3rd Gen and 4th Gen, houses over 3,000 audiocassettes that contain recordings from the band’s live performances accompanied by written set lists on sleeves, or “J-Cards”.
